Well blog commenting is one of the strategy in SEO, if you know how to make a comment that can benefit your site, for example in a blog which is related to my site, I will make a comment with a keyword link and if the webmaster approve my comment then I can get back links to his/her blog. This is only my own opinion about the blog commenting.
