Frys computer, currently running Windows XP professional that he told me he reinstalled on the computer because his hard drive had failed. I suspect it to be the tcp/ip protocol, so I checked it and it is all empty Address type, IP address, subnet mask, Default gateway, all those say "unavailable." So maybe that has to do with it? And so how can I fix it? Also any other suspicions?

You may want to try scanning for Adware / Spyware and viruses before replacing the network card. Some bad software can take out an internet connection.

Is the modem card installed properly? It may need to be reseated or replaced if it's not working right.
