Tons of hits, no ads, new site?!?!

I often see folks posting websites in various forums that have just recently been launched, has had no advertising, yet have hundreds if not thousands of unique visitors on their first month.They can't ALL be pulling everybodies' legs because it happens so often. But how does this happen?

The site could have old traffic still coming to it from people not realising that is no longer the original site. Such as several inbound links from other sites the original site was affiliated with. Another way people get traffic is by owning names that are often mispelled by a single letter or number. Good typo domains will generate large amounts of unique visitors just by pure accident.

Can you be more specific, what do you mean by natural traffic? If traffic driven by links and se, how can it be in the very first month? And if banner exchanges and traffic vendors can bring you a thousand of unique visitors a day, does it mean you need any decent position in CERP?
