Best forum software

I'm looking to startup a forum which will be used for support of my latest PHP project that I will be releasing. I'm stuck to which forum software I should use for this?

It needs to be user friendly, something that is not over bloated so it doesn't use much server resources, and that's really my only requirements. I've currently got MyBB setup on the server, but when I post in their community forum for support, I never seem to get an answer - If they don't want to support the project, then I ain't willing to use it.

I don't mind if it's paid or free, but preferably free!

Why do you prefer SMF2?

SMF is in the middle of imploding. Not to mention that their support and community totally suck. I'd avoid it - as it's pretty well doomed. A replacement is under development for SMF by the original developer, from what I've heard.

I'm currently using MyBB and I like it.

MyBB is by far the best because it's simple and highly customizable.

From my experience with this forum MyBB is buggy as hell. SMF is stable and secure even if they are having a power struggle.
